🎛️ Soule DSP Resonarium – A Synth That Thinks Outside the Box

If you’re into weird, wonderful, and slightly chaotic sound design, you’re gonna love this one.

Soule DSP Resonarium is not your typical synth. It doesn’t try to sound like a vintage Moog or a polished Serum preset. Instead, it dives deep into the world of physical modeling and waveguide synthesis to create textures that feel alive, unstable, and totally unique.

So What Is It?

Resonarium is a free, open-source synth that runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It supports VST3 and standalone formats, and it’s built with MPE in mind—so if you’ve got a Roli Seaboard or Ableton Push 3, you’re in for a treat.

At its core, Resonarium uses waveguides—basically virtual tubes that simulate how sound travels through physical spaces. You get four blocks, each with eight waveguide generators. You can tweak pitch, decay, gain, and keytracking to shape the behavior of each one.

How Do You Make It Sing?

You’ve got a few ways to excite the waveguides:

  • Impulse – like tapping a drum.
  • Noise – for gritty, unpredictable textures.
  • Sequence – rhythmic triggers.
  • Sampler – bring your own sound and let it loose.

Modulation Madness

This synth is packed with modulation options:

  • ADSR envelopes, LFOs, multi-stage envelopes (MSEGs), and random generators.
  • A modulation matrix that supports MPE sources, macros, and MIDI CC.

Basically, you can route anything to anything and make it dance.

FX Section

Once you’ve built your sound, you can run it through a bunch of effects:

  • Filter, chorus, phaser, distortion, amp sim, and delay.
  • It’s not just about shaping the sound—it’s about warping it into something new.

Who’s It For?

  • Sound designers who want to explore uncharted sonic territory.
  • Ambient and cinematic composers looking for evolving textures.
  • Experimental musicians who love unpredictability.
  • Anyone who’s bored of “normal” synths.

Heads-Up

Resonarium is still in development, so you might hit a few bugs—especially on older systems. But the dev is actively working on performance improvements, including a rewrite of the engine using SIMD for better speed.
